Web design has become easier than ever the last couple years. We are big fans of Wordpress to power your website. If you’d like to take a test drive of a Wordpress demo site, we’ll be launching a free weekly webinar soon to answer your questions. Wordpress has changed the game of web design. With a premium theme and the built in blog functionality of Wordpress you get the best of both worlds. You get an online advertisement and a self publishing wizard. If you don’t have a large web design budget then Wordpress might be your best option to get online fast.
Wordpress is not for everyone. There is still a big place for the really cool custom companies that do amazing high end stuff. These guys code multiple platforms and can add functionality that Wordpress might not handle. They can also create custom Wordpress themes from scratch. Anyways that’s not me or what I do. Feel free to contact either company above though.
Web Design with Worpdress
We’ve hitched our wagon to Wordpress for many reasons and here are a few.
- It’s a super easy CMS (content management system) and blogging platform.
- It plays very well with most of the Web 2.0 applications and tools.
- It speaks well to Google and someone told me that was important.
- It is free and open source software.
- It has a vibrant community of users, developers, contributors and fans who constantly improve it.
When it comes to Wordpress and Web Design, we use Ithemes for my premium themes (I’m an affiliate).
Content Manager
Have you designated someone in your small business or non profit as the Content Manager? We hope you have. We believe you should. We wrote about “Content Managers” a while back. After launching a website it’s the next most important step.
If you don’t have that person on staff then let us be that person. We’ll set up a system where we touch base early in the month to discuss what’s happening and what we should share with those who want to hear it. We may do lunch or coffee or a conference call. We’ll manage the process online so it’s easy to stay on the same page. We use Google Apps and 37 signals products like Basecamp and Backpack to make this easy.
Whatever the case we develop a plan and carry it out focusing on bottom line results.
